Contradicting?
Once again I am on the network MTV watching the new show, Skins. I have heard many negative reviews of this show and was curious to what it had to offer. I went to mtv.com and when I clicked on the show it asked for my age. That raised some flags because Jersey Shore/Teen Mom does not ask for the age. In my mind this show is probably a bit risky.
I was correct. It promotes teenage sexuality, drug usage and uses language that shouldn’t be viewed by young adults. Yes I know that teenagers participate in sex but some of the script included "Cherry popping"(I hate that term btw)-"Having to get laid before you are 17"(Like it’s a requirement)-"Katy is great in the sack"(talk about no respect)...the list goes on.
I question the morals of children and if by watching this show does it make them want to participate in this type of activity? I think that entertainment is great but I also think that if these shows are going to be available, teenagers need to be more educated on the risks of STDs and pregnancy. This leads to my next point, GYT campaign that MTV promotes.
GYT stands for Get yourself Tested and is a program that promotes safer sex. It is a great way to get the public aware of the dangers of STD's and protecting yourself. Although this is a great organization I find it to be ironic that it is on the MTV website/network.
Skins clearly is about having sex, drinking, and doing drugs. The first episode kicked off and it gave me enough viewing information to know what this show is about.
I'm not going to lie and say I won't watch it but I believe that MTV targets viewers at a young age and this show is disgusting.
My advice to you is after watching this show you might want to go get yourself tested. (Pun intended)
