Happy Thursday

Yay so much closer to the long awaited weekend!
I have been working hard on trying to think of different ideas to make human sexuality more relative to the world around us. I have a meeting today with my boss and I have prepared a few things to discuss with him.

Online Blog.-How effective will it be with getting ideas? So far I have only four subscribers but I keep putting blurbs on Facebook and Twitter to get more recognition and viewers.

Campus involvement posters would be great so the university could be able to recognize the facts about STD’s and where they can take action/learn more about the risks.

GYT campaign- How effective could this program be? I would like to work with some type of organization to get more involved with the campus.

Entrepreneur contest- I found out that the university is having a contest on ideas created by the students. There is a category for social and service. I won't be explaining my idea (Because it’s a contest) but it has to do with sexual health and well being. I will be attending the info meeting to see if I have what it takes...sounds pretty exciting.

I did contact an FSHS teacher and she is allowing me to sit in on her human sexuality class. The local school emailed me back and wants to collaborate something and get me to talk to more teachers...

I also have been looking up articles to put into the online classroom that are relevant to the course material.

So far it is going well; I would like to get more people involved so readers help me by promoting this blog! I need more ideas and would appreciate if you had any questions/ideas to help : )

MTV skins/GYT campaign

Contradicting?
Once again I am on the network MTV watching the new show, Skins. I have heard many negative reviews of this show and was curious to what it had to offer. I went to mtv.com and when I clicked on the show it asked for my age. That raised some flags because Jersey Shore/Teen Mom does not ask for the age. In my mind this show is probably a bit risky.

I was correct. It promotes teenage sexuality, drug usage and uses language that shouldn’t be viewed by young adults. Yes I know that teenagers participate in sex but some of the script included "Cherry popping"(I hate that term btw)-"Having to get laid before you are 17"(Like it’s a requirement)-"Katy is great in the sack"(talk about no respect)...the list goes on.

I question the morals of children and if by watching this show does it make them want to participate in this type of activity? I think that entertainment is great but I also think that if these shows are going to be available, teenagers need to be more educated on the risks of STDs and pregnancy. This leads to my next point, GYT campaign that MTV promotes.

GYT stands for Get yourself Tested and is a program that promotes safer sex. It is a great way to get the public aware of the dangers of STD's and protecting yourself. Although this is a great organization I find it to be ironic that it is on the MTV website/network.

Skins clearly is about having sex, drinking, and doing drugs. The first episode kicked off and it gave me enough viewing information to know what this show is about.
I'm not going to lie and say I won't watch it but I believe that MTV targets viewers at a young age and this show is disgusting.

My advice to you is after watching this show you might want to go get yourself tested. (Pun intended)

Week 2

Hello readers!
I hope the weekend went great for all of you! I went to visit a friend and take the GRE on my weekend. I found that it was like standardized tests that you take in highschool or the ACT except ten times more difficult and super boring.

I am in a weird mood because I have so much on my plate right now. I haven't been the normal Jessi just because I have a lot of things to think about due to grad school/future in general.

Enough of that.LOL.

I have a plan of attack for this internship and everytime I think about it I get sooooooo happy. It makes me think of how future life could be and its positive for sure.

My plans for this week include some lesson planning-contacting some professors to get their insight on college teaching and to start creating my professional notebook.

We met for our seminar yesterday and it was nice to see all of internship faces. I like being able to talk about the accomplishments that we will be seeing in the near future.

I will be posting a new topic in a few hours...
I have a tech meeting at 10:30 to understand computers better...(I need help in that area)

GTL+DTF=WTF?

I am an avid viewer of Jersey Shore (Embarrassing) but I was watching last night’s episode and felt a bit uncomfortable. I am not one to think many things are outrageous but I got offended when the Jersey “Juiceheads” were talking about having sex and that the ladies that they brought home were DTF. I will not say what that means because most of you know… Look it up if you are really curious (trying to keep this blog PG 13). The way that they were talking about these females was very derogatory and made it seem that they were just an object that could be used. The irony of this is 2 out of the 3 females left without having sex and weren’t looking to hookup. My question is if going home together after a night of partying with a male/female does this mean that you will be DTF? On college campuses or anywhere for that matter is that what people’s intentions are? I think that there are different intentions depending on the person but my advice for anyone is to make sure the intentions are clear and remember that people’s judgments are usually impaired after a night out on the town. Maybe I'm just overreacting to this MTV series but I think it should be addressed.

What do you think? Is it becoming more acceptable?

This week

I started my internship on Tuesday and have already compiled a lot of information from watching online courses to watching YouTube videos. I wanted to give you guys a chance to reflect on the current topic. -Sex

What does it mean to you ?
How does education help? What needs to be addressed?
Is it controversial and how so?

Welcome!

Hello readers,

I am a new blogger and I am very excited to kick this off. I am a student in Family Studies Human Services with a Minor in Women’s Studies. I am on my last and final semester of undergrad and I am happy to say that 5 years is starting to pay off…(HA!). I am looking into a master’s program for the upcoming year and have been considering a few options. I am looking at Marriage and Family Therapy or Family Life Education. It all depends on what school I will be going to and what area of study will suit me the most. I have aspirations of one day becoming a college professor. I want to be a part of the Family Studies program and to teach students such as myself, Human Sexuality. Human sexuality has a lot of topics to cover and it’s not only about sex it starts with parenting all the way to relationships and the in betweens.

While I am finishing my last semester I will also get to be an intern with the Family Studies program. I will be teaching/learning about sex.(My favorite topic). I will be rebuilding the online classroom and adding different aspects to the course. While that is my main project I will get to follow other teachers in the FSHS program to better my knowledge on how to teach in a college setting. I will help with the local high schools and middle schools to help assist them with the Human Sexuality class.

Readers,

I have created this blog to help out the students of my university and to get input from you. I want to know what students/parents/etc. are thinking about this topic. I want insight from past experiences and suggestions on how to make the classroom a better setting. I want to make this fun and make you more knowledgeable on the subject.

I will post different topics as the time goes, and then I would LOVE if you could help me out. Keep reading I will try and update everyday! Thanks!

Happy Thursday! <3>
